NanoceramicsNanoceramics are extremely fine grain structure ceramics which rely on the use of nanopowders as starting materials. Successful applications of such starting materials depend on the handling and processing, including prevention of agglomeration during consolidation and sintering. Our expertise in handling and control of powder suspensions allows us to meet the challenge of using nanoscale powders in real ceramic processes and products, such as single electron transistors; coulomb blockade devices; quantum dots and micro electromechanical systems (MEMS). These skills are clearly demonstrated through our rheology studies (including Zeta potential measurement); in freeze drying; in tape casting and now in direct writing applications such as ink jet printing, laser deposition and nozzle dispensing. Years of sintering expertise is enhanced by involvement in emerging applications such as microwave assisted sintering, reducing energy and processing times, and therefore production costs. Our processing & development expertise can be supplemented by world leading surface characterisation, along with hugely informative techniques such as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) at our disposal. We can provide a range of consultancy and development services, aimed at front end material selection and development, process improvement or investigative troubleshooting. Our involvement in the development of International Standards for the handling and processing of nanomaterials means that you can be sure that applying the technologies we develop for you will meet the most stringent safety regulations. |
