| Laser marking is a thermally activated method for producing permanent, enhanced contrast single colour images (either logos or product identification) onto the surface of materials such as glass, ceramics and metals. The technology uses focussed laser energy to mark the surface whilst the substrate itself remains thermally unchanged. The laser marking technology being employed at CERAM meets the four key requirements in modern industrial marking - high resolution, high contrast, speed of application and permanence. Permanent laser marking is ideal for use on brittle materials such as glass, ceramic, and porcelain whose surface structure can't withstand the thermal shock associated with higher power laser etching. As the mark cannot be damaged or removed, it also allows reliable tracking all the way through the manufacturing process. With the enhanced contrast and/or colour which results from laser marking, it can be more easily viewed and imaged by both the human eye and machine vision equipment. Laser marking is also ideal for depositing a durable mark onto coloured glazes without the need for subsequent firing, enabling personalisation of products and low volume production. At CERAM, we provide a range of services including:
The marking materials used are lead and cadmium free water based products, which are environmentally friendly and easy to use. If required they can be incorporated into a ceramic tape for easier handling. |
